This strawberry plant

reaching across grey, cold concrete

gives me hope.

Feelings its way to moisture,

a place to root

in fecund

deepness,

a place to

swell in a juicy

sweetness

of shining

brightness.

Trapped in deadly plastic

it reaches beyond its confines

for freedom,

stretching its cramped limbs

for space,

and blooming.

Tenaciously it tendrills

hopefully

forward

to find a more succulent,

vibrant,

healthy,

home

for generations

of strawberries

to come.
