I’m really excited to announce that the book  Into the Woods I’ve been working on for the past few years has a launch date at Booka Bookshop, Oswestry.

The book is a set of fairy tales for adults and is based on interviews I did with women who have lived with and escaped from abusive relationships and so we are launching on Sunday 25th November which is the United Nation’s International Day to Stop Violence Against Women and Girls.

I really wanted this book to make a difference to women everywhere, not just those in abusive relationships.  The book is about the healing power of sharing our story and how women can reclaim their power through connection and by supporting each other. One of our reviewers said that the women in the book show:

“Fierce love, deep courage and tentative hope in the commitment of the hard work of recovery and healing”.

Into the Woods

The process of writing this book has been increasingly collaborative.  The women in interviewed told my their stories in trust so that their experience might make a difference to the world, or, as someone said, to make “light from darkness”.

Into the Woods

Anita Wyatt has been creating the most stunning illustrations, and Kate Taylor of Middlefarm Press has been an amazing managing editor.  Bot are all the more wonderful as they are giving their time and years of experience for free because they really believe that 1 in 4 women experiencing domestic abuse in a lifetime is just too many.

“Through the genre of the Fairy Story and by drawing characteristic of the princesses, lost girls, heroines, wolves and beasts from stories told to us as children, Julie succeeds in helping us to understand something very important about the vulnerability and cruelty of human nature, which often go hand in hand.”

Profits from the book sales will go the DVA charities and I’m meeting with the first DVA charity on Friday about the launch.

Into the Woods

I’m still waiting for the final RRP once I’ve got print costs but will let you know asap.

In the meantime, please start talking to people about the book and the launch.  If you can come let me know and I’ll add your name to the list.  The more people who come, the more press we will get, the more books will sell and the more money and attention can go to stop domestic abuse.

If you’re on Facebook please like the Into The Woods page by clicking on the green as I’ll be adding reviews and illustrations.

Together I really feel we can make a difference so please help.

Thank you.
