Freeze has thawed into bubbling white water,

wearing me away,
eroding all that is known,
deeper,
penetrating,
breath-taking,
gasping,
convulsing,
suffocating,
shuddering to surface

The kitten chews the dog’s ear,
The dog growls a warning.
